Doug Burgum was born on August 1, 1956, in Arthur, North Dakota. He graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in university studies and later earned an MBA from Stanford University. Burgum’s career began in the technology sector, where he founded Great Plains Software, which he sold to Microsoft for $1.1 billion in 2001. He served as the 33rd Governor of North Dakota from 2016 to 2024 and was appointed as the 55th United States Secretary of the Interior on February 1, 2025, under President Donald Trump
